Chunky Heels

I have become more and more mobile in these last weeks and I require cute sandals that will make it through walking long blocks and standing for long periods of time. Welp, I found a cute pair! While I ate at the greenspace in Union Square right accross from Steve Madden, I decided to pop in. They had 20-30% off what seemed like their whole stock. I fell in love with these chunky  heels. Unfortunately they didn’t have the blue ones so I took the blush colored ones. Do we like?

Here are the blue ones pictured in the store.

I paid $80 for these heels. But if you wanted to pay way less, Payless has an identical pair for at least $30 cheaper.

Pretty In Punk

Mini Spotlight!

To back track on my night at Vodou, I noticed the bartender had some really cool earrings (what I thought were earrings at the time). When I closed my tab I asked her more about them and she said she made them! She is a jewelry designer. The “earrings” are actually hooks that go around your ear. Haawwwwwt!

And this is Shanel! Hi Shanel!!!

Some of her pieces..

Vodou

Because I had the grim a few weeks back I missed my sister’s birthday celebration so I decided to make it up to her and took her out for appetizers and drinks after work to my favorite spot located in the Bedford Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, NYC. It actually happens to be one of her favorite spots as well. The lounge is called Vodou Bar. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I can’t say enough good things about this bar/lounge. It’s located at the corner of Halsey Street and Nostrand Avenue. It’s sexy and chic. Most times I walk right in with no lines. They have wonderful waiters and waitresses. Black owned. Mixed crowds = Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, LGTB, you name it, it’s there! And that is EXACTLY the reason I love Vodou Bar. Everyone meshes well, no tension, no drunk assholes, everyone is there to have a good time and the kicker, I DONT HAVE TO LEAVE BROOKLYN TO HAVE FUN. Did I mention the DJ’s?  GREAT DJ’s. Thursday was Global Jam night (first time for me attending on a Thursday). Music from all over the  world (danceable music), i.e. African music, Haitian, Jamaican, Brazilian, Cuban and he even played for me “Where Have You Been” by Rihanna (Wooooooooooooooooo my song). $5 drink specials! PLEASE TRY THEIR CHILIYAKI WINGS! OMG!!! AMAZING! So if you are ever in NYC, give Vodou a shot, it’s worth it and you will never go hang out in Manhattan again! I am a Brooklyn snob. I can’t help it! LOL.

<GASP> How could I forget Patrick the Manager! He was awesome! Very accommodating, a ball of fun and stylish! Perfect fit for Vodou! And Shanel (who will have a post all to her own) is such a good bartender and stunning!

Here are some pics of Vodou and our night!

Goddess Updo

Having a bad hair day? Why not try braiding your hair into a funky goddess updo. Start by creating a side part. Braiding your hair on each side (not too neat) and stop once you get to the nape of your neck. Bobby pin each side down so that it stays. take the remaining hair from both sides and twist them and create sort of a bun and bobby pin some more. Pull out small pieces of hair along the sides (hairline area) to create that goddess look and you have yourself a hairdo for bad hair days. No one will ever know.  What do we think?

When I do wear this hairdo I tend to wear long earrings. I purchased these at my hair salon for $5. Talk about one stop shopping!

Modified Tea Shades

While waiting for an “EXPRESS” train for 12 minutes (Oo), my girlfriend snapped some pics. Everywhere I go and I wear these sunglasses evryone asks me where I got them from or I get wierd stares like WTF does she have on her face? I love these shades. They look like teashades (think Ozzy Ozborne sunglasses) but a modern version. So I coined it modified teashades. I got them from the The Gift Man in Park Slope. I blogged about this store and its wonderful treasures. Check out the previous post here.

Patiently waiting..

Administrative Professionals Day!

Happy Administrative Professionals Day to all of the admins in the world! We deal with a lot of shit and so if they don’t give us raises at least they shower us with nice gifts! I received this beautiful neck piece from Macy’s Charter Club brand. I actually really love this piece (not many people can buy for me). Can’t wait to wear it. I received a gift card from Sephora and these beautiful orchids pictured below the necklace (disregard my junkie office). I’d say this turned out to be a good day!

Tres Piezas

My girlfriend TJ said I looked western. I thought it looked more biker femme but I guess with the faux leather vest I could be a biker from the west? Anyway, total random pics. LOL.

Photo: top: Vintage-Beacon’s Closet; vest and necklace: H&M

I love this blouse. First time I wear it. Love the puffy sleeves and pussy bow tie (although not pictured tied).  The blouse could come off to some as very mature and date any look to back into the 80′s and 90′s when woman wore two piece suits with sneakers. LOL. But the print was just toooo awesome to pass up and I paid something like $8.95 for it! The vest was just to give it a punch of youth and instant update. Pants (not pictured in its entirety) were skinny black trousers from H&M as well.

Balenciaga High-Tops

No explanation necessary.

Loving these Balenciaga High-Tops. As a fan of reblogging, I had to pass these on to my male followers from DJ Orator! Lovvviiinngg! If you are gonna spend 300 or more on a pair of "retro" jordans that keep on coming out every year since I have been in highschool and are sooooo played (rolling eyes), spend your hard earned money on a pair of these or similar ones like those from D2, Y3 etc and REALLY make a statement. You can find few variations of this pair of Balenciaga sneakers at Barney's.

ZARA- Loving, Stalking, Buying!

I am currently stalking these dresses by ZARA. Ugh! I even know the shoes I want to wear with each! God, I love the Summer. I wonder if the second one would get me sent home from work? Hmmm.

After looking at these dresses, I know you probably notice that they are completely different styles and maybe even questioning if they are even my style. Well, the truth is, yes they each reflect my personal style, I am a chameleon, and I kind of transform with every look I try. I always have a signature stand out piece (either a funky shoe, belt, and/or neck piece). High end, low-end, mid-point, sexy tight dress, business suit, or white tee with jeans. The point of this post was to:

a) display what I am loving for myself and buying;and

b) to encourage trying new styles and/or styles that may not be what you would typically go for.

Why? So you don’t get stuck with the same look over and over again. Keep it fresh, proportioned and surprise; never be predictable. POW!

Happy Monday!

Isabel Marant Inspired!

I am not a fan of sneakers, but it is hard not to want to own a pair of these. It combines comfort and functionality needed for those times when wearing heels are just not possible, like running after an 18 month old or doing groceries and you know what,  SHOPPING! I can’t tell you how many times I have went shopping all day in heels and by the end of the day I am in pain. Ugh! So I honestly think that I have found a pair I need and still look stylish!

Below are the Isabel Marant Betty Shoes and Bekket shoes, 2 inch wedges! They come in at anywhere from $725-$850 but you can get them on sale at New Shoes Mall here for $358.  Celebrities like Beyonce, Miranda Kerr and Kate Bosworth, to name a few, all have been wearing these.
