Fashion Star -1/2 a Star!

Fashion Star aired last night and I have to say I am on the fence about it still. I liked the show’s premise, but something was lacking. OH WAIT, I KNOW, creativity from its designers?… I know I am being overly critical at a show still at its infancy stage but I have to be honest. Not entirely impressed. I got tons of messages about watching this show. And I will tell you what I told them, before I blog about it, I need to see what it’s about. I am curious to know why they chose Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson as mentors. The one thing I did love was the African American Buyers for H&M and MACYS! LOVE!

I am not saying that there wasn’t any standouts in the crowd. There were. But I can’t help but feel like it was missing that wow factor as a show and great designs by its chosen designers. Some of the garments were not constructed well and a lot  of it was been there, wore that-ish. But it’s only teh first episode and I hope the challenges become more creative. I had a conversation with my best friend about this. Without getting into too much detail. He said not everything needs to be couture and dramatic especially with the stores that will be selling the line. My stance is that I love drama, but that doesnt mean I can’t appreciate simplicity when well constructed.

Nonetheless, here are my faves picked up by H&M and SAKS.

Sara Parrott’s deign was on trend. It is really cute and wearable I would totally wear this to work. I love the sleeves and cut-out on the back. Gives it a little sexiness! They do have this in black and is available at H&M locations.

Nzimiro Oputa’s Jacket was geniously selected by the H&M buyer. his jacket is great! And men, do take notice. Women want to see you in this! Trust me! Want to know how to wear it, email me!

And I can’t forget the zip skirt that everyone is talking about by Orly Shani.  It is available here for purchase. $350.00 (overpriced much?)
